The 'Match' function allows the Operator to use the mobile computer as a data entry tool while out in the warehouse.

Your supplier is sending you product and it has a barcode on the label. The barcode is their part number and it is does not match your internal part number. To solve this problem simply add a cross reference to the database and the warehouse staff can do this easily with the 'Match' function.
