Thermal rolls · sold by the box

Most labels are thrown out by Friday.

A carton goes out on Thursday, the label is scanned once and binned with the box. A pick face gets relabelled the next time the racking moves. Paying for stock built to survive five years outdoors is money spent on one day’s work.

This range prints cleanly, sticks well and costs less. It comes through the same distributor as our Zebra printers, so stock and delivery work exactly as they do everywhere else on this site.

If the label has to outlive the job — a year on a machine, a freezer, outdoors, anything handled hard — the main label range is the one to use. That is what it is for, and we would rather sell you the right one twice than the cheap one three times.

Before the sizes

What you are actually choosing between.

Two decisions, and neither of them is the price.

How long it has to last

Read once, or read for years

A despatch label, a pick face, a date sticker, a job ticket — all read once and replaced. That is what this range is for. An asset tag, a plant label, anything that goes in a freezer or sits in the sun has to still scan long after the job it was printed for, and that is a different label with a different price.

Nobody saves money buying the wrong one. Ring us if it is not obvious which side of that line you are on.

What your printer feeds from

Open the machine and look

The hole in the middle of the roll decides what fits: 25 mm on a desktop printer, 76 mm on an industrial one, and a few at 38 or 40 mm in between. Every drawing below has the core written on it.

Direct thermal needs no ribbon and fades with heat and sunlight. Thermal transfer needs a ribbon and lasts. The filter below asks you which, and the main labels page explains the difference properly.

How it is sold

One box is the minimum

These come by the carton rather than the roll — four, six, ten or twenty-four rolls depending on the size, so a box holds 2,400 to 20,000 labels. One box is the smallest order we can place.

What it costs

Quoted, not printed

There is no price on this page on purpose. Quantity moves the number enough that a single figure would be wrong for most people reading it, and it would always be wrong in the direction that costs you money. Tell us the size and roughly how many and you get a real one.

Freight is quoted with it, the same as everywhere else on this site.

Start with the printer, not the label.

You do not need to know what your labels are called. Open the machine and look at what is loaded in it — that one answer rules out most of this page.

1. What is the hole in the middle of the roll?

2. What size, roughly?

Ask for a price

Four things and we can quote it.

None of them are compulsory — if you only know some of it, send what you have. A photograph of the box the last lot came in answers most of this on its own.

Not sure this is the right range?

Send a photograph of the box your last lot came in, or of the thing you are labelling. Thirty-five years of this says the answer is usually obvious from the picture — and sometimes the answer is that you should be buying the dearer label.
