Zebra TC22.

A six-inch Android touch computer with a scanner in it. No keypad, a screen you drive with your thumbs, and Wi-Fi 6 — for the jobs where the person holding it is reading as much as they are scanning.

The question that decides it is not the spec. It is whether the operator needs to look at a screen or hit a key. Picking from a list, checking a price, reading a work order — that is a touchscreen. Eight hours of scan, key a quantity, scan again, with gloves on, is a keypad, and that is an MC3400.

Why this one

When the screen is the job.

01

It is the cheapest way into Zebra Android

Rugged, supported, and running the same Android build as the machines above it — without paying for a gun grip and a keypad nobody is going to use. If the work is light-duty scanning with a screen in front of it, this is the honest answer.

02

Two scan engines, and it decides the price

The SE4710 is standard range — a label in your hand, or on the shelf in front of you. The SE55 reads near and up to about 12 metres, so the top beam is readable from the floor. If anything you scan is above head height, that is the whole reason to pay the difference; if nothing is, it is money for nothing.

03

It is not a phone in a case

A consumer phone with a scanning app will do this for a fortnight. Then it is dropped on concrete, or the battery will not last a shift, or an update changes the camera and the scanning stops. This is built to be dropped and to take a spare battery.

What it costs

Part numbers and configurations.

Eight of them, and the differences are small enough to be worth reading rather than guessed at.

Australian dollars, including GST, excluding freight. The first seven are the same 6-inch Android touch computer with Wi-Fi 6 — what changes down the table is the scan engine, the memory and the battery.

The BLE beacon battery is the standard 3800 mAh one with a Bluetooth beacon in it — not the bigger battery. It is for sites running something that listens for beacons and works out where in the building a device is. If nothing you run does that, it buys you nothing, and the row above it is the same machine for less.

On the battery generally: standard is 3800 mAh and extended is 5200 mAh, and both come out without tools. A spare battery is usually a better answer than a bigger one — it turns a flat device into a thirty second job instead of an hour on a cradle.

That is the most you will pay. Every figure above is the maximum inc GST. Anything in quantity gets a written quote with freight worked out to your actual address, which is lower rather than higher — so nobody who rings finds a worse price than the one on the page. How buying works has the rest of it.

“In stock” means our distributor’s warehouse, not a shelf in Berowra. Those figures were read on 13 October 2026 and they move daily — fifty of one line and none of another is normal. Zebra also add and drop configurations without telling anybody. So ring before you rely on either a part number or a count: we read the live catalogue when we quote, which is the only version that is current by definition.

The last row

The RFID one is a different machine.

Zebra call it the TC22R, and it is one device rather than two. A TC22 and a UHF RFID reader in a single gun-shaped body — nothing to pair, nothing to clip on, nothing to charge separately. That is why its part number shares nothing with the seven above it, and why it costs what it costs.

A barcode has to be seen. A tag does not. That is the whole difference. A reader sweeps a pallet, a carton or a rack and picks up every tag within range without anybody pointing it at anything — so a count that takes an afternoon with a scanner can take minutes.

It only works if the stock is already tagged, and that is the part people underestimate. Tags cost money per item and have to get onto the goods somewhere. If your stock is not tagged today, the honest first conversation is about that and not about the device.

The all-in-one shape is the point of this one. The usual way to do RFID on a phone-sized device is to drop it into a separate reader and pair the two. That is two things to charge, two things to fail and two things to carry. This is lighter and shorter than that arrangement, and there is nothing to pair. It runs the same Android and the same MDM as the rest of the range.

Ring and describe what you want to read and how far away it is. If RFID is not the answer we will say so — it very often is not.

Not sure whether you want a screen or a keypad?

Describe the job on the phone — what gets scanned, how often, what the operator has to read, and whether they are wearing gloves. It takes about ten minutes and it is the only part of this decision that is actually hard.
